Buzz Word at the Bath and West

Wandering into the Bee tent at the Royal Bath and West Show , I was delighted to find two Richard Huish College Students just inside the door with their wonderful 'Buzz Word' stand.

Matt Hammond and Jasmine Wark were two of nine students aged 16-18 who have created their own company their entry in the Young Enterprise competition.

Aiming at children as the future they are raising awareness of the plight of bees with a series of story books based on the bee colony. Each bee has a unique character such as Be Happy and Bee Active. They self-published the first two books and have put the money from sales back into their company.

With each book sold they give away a packet of wildflower seeds donated by Chelston Nurseries and wrote a personal message inside. Just like the bee community they have made it a community project by inviting local children to write stories and draw pictures.

Every stage of their project has been carefully thought through and their whole presentation is very colourful and professional from the books themselves to the leaflets and badges to promote the company.

Jasmine is the author and the illustrations in the books are by Jemma Compton. They are selling direct and also at Waterstones.

The group have already got through the first stage of the competitions and are heading for the regionals in Torquay on June 15th with hopes to get to the London finals.

I haven’t seen what they are up against but from what I saw at the show, they are in with a very good chance. Good Luck guys!
